ASCE/EWRI Artificial Recharge of Ground Water Standards Committee Training, Symposia, and Standards

The ASCE/EWRI ARGW Standards Committee met June 27, 2004 in Salt Lake City where David Pyne reported on training activities for the past year. Multi-discipline involvement is a major concern and it is this Committee's hope to increase the advertising and visibility of Artificial Recharge within ASCE/EWRI. In an effort to increase participation in the training course, the committee is pursuing training as a continuing education course. The committee is searching for a company recognized as a leader in providing continuing education in many states. CEU Plan is an example of this type of company. The continuing education courses are affordable and more convenient for many engineers and scientists. The committee hopes that providing alternative training options will result in better understanding for engineers and scientists interested in artificial recharge.

The ARGW Standards Committee is involved in symposia on land subsidence and aquifer recharge. The next symposia scheduled are the 5th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge, June 11-16, 2005, in Berlin, Germany, and the 7th International Symposium on Land Subsidence in Shanghai, China, October 23-28, 2005. The 6th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge will be held November 2007 in Phoenix, AZ. The committee feels that the symposia organized by the committee should contain the future standards committee name, which will be voted on by ballot in the near future.
