Newest Member of the EWRI Governing Board

Dr. Udai P. Singh is the newest member of the EWRI Governing Board. He replaces Bob Williams as Chair of Member Services Executive Committee after Bob serves out his term this fiscal year. Udai's position on the Board will be for three years (2005-2008) starting October 1, 2004.

Udai has been in the field of environmental engineering for thirty years after receiving his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India, and his graduate degrees in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from Clemson University and the University of Florida. Udai serves as a Vice President with the Environmental Services Business Group of CH2M HILL, and works in its Oakland, California office. He is a recognized EPA Superfund expert and currently CH2M HILL's program manager on a $300 million RAC IX Superfund contract with EPA. Udai has authored and published more than 50 technical papers, and written or edited six books in environmental engineering, most of them in the area of hazardous waste management. He was given the prestigious Hazardous Waste Management Award in 1999 by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) for his level of professionalism and expertise in promoting quality technical and management performance in the field of hazardous waste management. Udai also serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the University of Southern California (USC) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

A founding member of EWRI, Udai has been an active member of ASCE and EWRI for several years and has served on numerous Councils since its formation including Conferences, Publications, Watershed, Membership Development & Retention, and Student & New Professional Activities. He chaired several technical committees of ASCE's Environmental Engineering Division (EED) during the 1980s and served on EED's Executive Committee from 1992-1997, holding the position of Chair from 1995-1996. Udai also served as the Technical Program Chair of the North American Water and Environment Congress '96 in Anaheim, California.

Udai is confident that EWRI's Member Services will play a stronger role in EWRI in the near future, as the Institute is becoming more mature. He feels that having Member Services work more closely with the Technical Activities and Product Development Councils/EXCOMs will further strengthen the Institute.
