ASCE Governance Issues

David W. Renetzky, Communications Council Chair

The ASCE 2004 Ballot will be on its way to your mailbox shortly. Please take the time to exercise your democratic right within our organization. Several ASCE national offices will be filled by the June election, including the role of president-elect. EWRI’s founding president and still very active member, Conrad G. Keyes, Jr., is running for the position. Show your support for Conrad and EWRI on the upcoming ballot!

Additionally, ASCE News has done a great job of covering the issues related to potential governance restructuring for ASCE. As you may have read, the Board of Direction approved an amendment to the Society’s constitution in November, 2003 for a new governance model. The amendment must be ratified by two-thirds of the members voting this June in the national election to be implemented. Make your vote count on this important issue.

I urge each of you to become informed about the officer candidates and governance issues so that you are ready to vote in June. When that ballot comes, open it up, fill it out, and return it… and feel good about taking part in your society.
